On 3 September 2021, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published a public comment on four potential Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs), which will close on 18 October 2021, during which all stakeholders will be able to submit comments to ECHA. Substances that pass the review will be included in the SVHC Candidate List as official substances.
In addition, on 1 June 2021, the European Commission (EU) submitted Notification G/TBT/N/EU/803 to the World Trade Organization (WTO), proposing to include resorcinol (CAS: 108-46-3) in the list of SVHCs as the 26th batch in the fourth quarter of 2021 due to endocrine disrupting properties. The public consultation period for resorcinol has now closed. Therefore, after the announcement of the 26th batch of SVHC official substances, the list of SVHC candidate substances may reach 224.

The SVHC list is updated twice a year, and as the SVHC list is constantly updated, enterprises are facing more and more control requirements. Enterprises need to raise their awareness of the risks of their products, and within six months after the substance is included in the SVHC list, eligible enterprises need to complete the SVHC notification in the article. From 5 January 2021, suppliers of articles are required to submit to ECHA a SCIP notification of information about the SVHC contained in the article. Companies are advised to investigate their supply chains early to prepare for regulatory changes.
