OEHHA updates at least annually the ‘List of Chemicals Known to Cause Cancer or Reproductive Toxicity,’ commonly referred to as the California 65 List, which currently contains nearly 1,000 chemicals.

Under the California 65 Act, manufacturers and distributors of products that contain hazardous substances on the list and pose a risk of exposure are required to post clear and reasonable warning labels on their products, or else they must demonstrate with scientific data that the concentration of the substance is less than a safe harbour level for consumers to ingest in the course of normal use.
