Recently, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has added two substances to the SVHC Intended Substances List, which is scheduled for public comment in August this year, and is expected to be formally included in the SVHC Candidate Substances List in January 2025 if the comment is passed.

SVHC stands for Substance of Very High Concern.

According to REACH article 33, manufacturers of products containing more than 0.1% SVHC sold in the European Union are required to fulfil the information transfer obligation, and companies are required to provide sufficient information to downstream consumers to ensure that the product can be used safely.

According to REACH article 7(2), SVHC notification is also required for products containing more than 0.1% SVHC sold in the EU and exported in quantities exceeding 1 tonne/year.

In addition, according to the requirements of the Waste Framework Directive (WFD), from 05 January 2021, products containing more than 0.1% SVHC should be notified under the SCIP before placing them on the market.
