Recently, it was learned from the Jiangsu Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that the Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO) has issued new regulations. Starting from January 1st of this year, all products that require a Designated Body (NB) evaluation by a designated organization must be affixed with the GSO Conformity Tracking Symbol (GCTS) with the NB number and QR code. This requirement will become mandatory from April 1st of this year.

As a major producer of toys in the world, China's toys account for 73% of the total global toy sales. The previous situation where the European and American markets were the main export destinations has been broken. Many Chinese toy companies are diversifying their trade partners and striving to develop emerging markets to fill the gap in the European and American markets. The toy markets in Gulf countries have become potential areas for toy companies to explore. The upgrading of toy safety standards in Gulf countries is bound to bring new challenges to China's toy exports.

Toy companies exporting to the Gulf region must undergo relevant toy product certification in accordance with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), obtain a certificate through third-party certification, prove that their quality meets GSO standards and safety requirements, and pass the verification system before they can enter and be put on the market. Any toys that do not comply with GSO safety standards will not be sold in the Gulf countries market.

Here, the Jiangsu Light Industry Products and Children's Products Testing Center reminds relevant export enterprises to closely monitor the new technology regulations and requirements of emerging market countries such as the Gulf region. For example, in recent years, Middle Eastern countries have introduced a large number of new technology trade measures targeting children's products, food contact materials, and other commodities based on EU standards. On the one hand, enterprises should conduct targeted research on this and actively adopt the country's safety standards to entrust testing institutions to conduct testing, in order to avoid the inability of related products to enter the other party's market due to non-compliance with relevant requirements, resulting in significant economic losses; On the other hand, enterprises should also accelerate technological transformation, timely carry out transformation and upgrading, introduce high-tech, improve innovation capabilities and management levels, and continuously enhance the added value and international competitiveness of their products. At the same time, the inspection and quarantine department should also do a good job in collecting and analyzing relevant information, fully utilizing the advantages of talent, information, and administrative resources, and helping enterprises fully understand and more effectively respond to technical trade measures.
