At the 9th China Toy and Baby Products Industry Conference, Liang Mei, the President of the China Toy and Baby Products Association, released the "2017 China Toy and Baby Products Industry Development Report". The report analyzed the current market situation of the toy and baby products industry at home and abroad, as well as the import and export situation and consumer behavior in 2016. It summarized the current quality status of exported and domestic products, sorted out new laws and regulations and safety standards at home and abroad, and predicted the market size of various segmented products in the future.

1、 Export situation of toys and baby products from China in 2016


1.1 Overall export of toys in 2016


In 2016, the total export value of toys (large caliber) in China was 33.716 billion US dollars, an increase of 9.46% compared to 2015; The total export value of traditional toys was 18.393 billion US dollars, an increase of 17.42% compared to 2015.


1.2 Toy exports from six major production areas in 2016


In 2016, the total export value of traditional toys in Guangdong Province was 11.409 billion US dollars, accounting for 62.03% of China's total toy export value, ranking first; The total export value of traditional toys in Zhejiang Province was 2.737 billion US dollars, accounting for 14.88% of China's export value, ranking second; Jiangsu Province ranks third, while Shanghai ranks fourth.


1.3 Main target markets for toy exports in 2016


In 2016, the total export value of toys (large caliber) from China to the United States, the European Union, Japan, Hong Kong, and the Middle East was 23.209 billion US dollars, an increase of 2.16% compared to 2015; The total export value of traditional toys to the above-mentioned regions was 12.481 billion US dollars, an increase of 15.73% compared to 2015.


1.4 Overall export trade form of toys in 2016


The export under general trade accounts for 40.91% of the total export value of toys (large caliber) nationwide; The export proportion of toys (large caliber) under general trade in Fujian Province is relatively high, at 82.07%.


1.5 Overall export of baby and children's products in 2016


The total export value of infant and child products was 19.644 billion US dollars, a decrease of 3.73% compared to 2015; The total export value of safety seats was 591 million US dollars, an increase of 7.85% compared to 2015; The total export value of baby beds was 10.828 billion US dollars, a decrease of 5.42% compared to 2015.


The total export value of baby strollers was 3.255 billion US dollars, an increase of 2.85% compared to 2015; The total export value of feeding supplies was 4.774 billion US dollars, a decrease of 7.39% compared to 2015; The total export value of baby clothing was 2.95 billion US dollars, a decrease of 8.67% compared to 2015.



2、 Import situation of toys and baby products in China in 2016


2.1 Overall Toy Imports in 2016


The total import value of toys (large caliber) in China was 1.069 billion US dollars, an increase of 22.96% compared to 2015; The total import value of traditional toys was 495 million US dollars, a decrease of 0.36% compared to 2015.


2.2 Overall Import of Infant and Child Products in 2016


The total import value of infant and child products was 485 million US dollars, a decrease of 0.49% compared to 2015; Safety seats: $37 million, compared to $50 million in 2015; Child crib: 219 million US dollars, compared to 212 million US dollars in 2015; Feeding supplies: $212 million, compared to $196 million in 2015; Baby clothing: 145 million US dollars, compared to 136 million US dollars in 2015.

Report 176 unqualified toy products; The proportion of missing or incorrect warnings and explanations is 53.70%; Small component issues account for 20.37%; The proportion of sharp tip problems is 12.96%.


6.2 Government Notification of Unqualified Infant and Child Products in 2016


Report 525 unqualified baby and child products; 290 children's clothing styles, 62.76% of which have missing or incorrect warnings and instructions; 133 baby strollers, with 49.52% of them having missing or incorrect warnings and instructions.


70 children's shoes were reported, with 32.86% of them having excessive heavy metal content; 23 types of children's furniture, 43.48% of which have missing or incorrect warnings and instructions.

Baby strollers: 72.50% have missing or incorrect warnings and instructions, and 23.75% have dangerous crevices; Safety seats: Head displacement exceeding the standard accounts for 47.17%, and warning and instruction missing or incorrect accounts for 39.62%; Children's furniture: The proportion of missing or incorrect warnings and instructions is 86.96%, and the proportion of holes, openings, and gaps in mechanical devices that do not meet standards is 52.17%.


Child care products: all sampled products are qualified; Children's clothing: The main problem is that the straps and ropes are too long; Infant tableware: The main problem is the lack or error of warnings and instructions; Infant and toddler bottles: The main problem is the lack or error of warnings and instructions.
