1、 What is a children's high chair?
National standard (GB 22793.1-2008): A chair typically used by children aged 6 months to 3 years, designed to support them and maintain their position through their own adjustment. A tray can be attached to the chair for children to feed, eat, or play with. The chair is designed to be placed on the ground and allow children to sit in it with access to the dining table.
European standard (EN 14988.1:2006+A1:2012): A free standing chair that can lift children up to near table height, used to support children aged 6 to 36 months who can maintain a sitting position through their own coordination.
The international standard (ISO 1992:2015) is the same as the European standard (EN 14988.1:2006+A1:2012).
2、 When choosing a high chair suitable for children for babies, there are several aspects to pay attention to:
Compliance with national standards
Although children's high chairs are not subject to mandatory 3C certification by the government, when making a purchase, we still need to check whether the product packaging meets the national standard GB 22793.1-2008. Only products that pass the national standard are relatively safe;
Safety performance of key parts of children's high chairs
◆ Use visual inspection and hand touch methods to check whether there are exposed open pipes, dangerous gaps, sharp edges, sharp points, burrs, and any squeezing or shearing of moving parts in the accessible area where children ride;
◆ Check if there are any small parts that can be put into the mouth within the accessible area for children to ride on. Non removable parts should be repeatedly pulled by hand several times to see if they can fall off into small parts. To prevent entanglement hazards, except for seat belts, there should be no thin ropes, straps, or other narrow cloth strips;
◆ Stability of children's high chairs: You can try pressing the edges of the high chair seat and the top of the chair back with your hands to see if the high chair can stand firmly on the ground. Usually, high chairs with wide bottoms are more stable and less prone to tipping over.
◆ The firmness of children's high chairs: You can also try tilting the high chair from front to back and shaking it to see if it is stable and if there will be any accidental collapse. It should be strong and sturdy enough to bear the weight of children. Try shaking the seat and backrest to check for squeaking, dents, deformations, movable parts, or disassembly issues.
◆ If the high chair can be folded, to prevent accidental folding of the child's high chair, it is generally recommended to choose two action steps before folding to ensure the safety of the baby sitting on it;
◆ The restraint system safety belt should include at least one set of waist belt and crotch belt. The minimum width of the waist belt and crotch belt should be 20mm, and the minimum width of the shoulder belt should be 15mm; It is recommended to choose a 5-point seat belt, which includes a waist belt, hip belt, and shoulder belt. Try unfastening and fastening the seat belt buckle to see if it is easy to use. Can the length of the seat belt be adjusted to be suitable for baby use. Pull the seat belt by hand to see if it is securely connected.
◆ Wheels. For casters, the current national standard prohibits their use unless they can be converted into high chairs for walkers. If you need to choose a high chair with wheels for the convenience of moving, we recommend choosing a high chair with only 2 wheels.
(The national standard for casters will be revised later: high chairs can be equipped with up to two wheels or casters.)
Comfort and ease of use
◆ Adjustable functions, including plate, backrest, footrest, and seat height adjustment. These functions should be easy to use and accurately positioned for each gear, without misalignment or inadequate locking.
Foldable high chairs should have locking devices to prevent accidental folding. Repeat the folding device several times to see if it is flexible and can be locked in place.
Purchase a high chair that can stand after folding. A high chair that cannot stand is easily knocked over when placed against a wall.
◆ A footrest that supports the feet or legs. This is very important for supporting the baby's feet or calves. Adjustable foot support is very practical to meet the growth needs of babies.
◆ Try moving or moving the high chair to see if it is convenient.
Cleaning and maintenance
◆ Purchase materials that are easy to clean. It is very important whether the high chair is easy to clean, because babies inevitably get food everywhere. A high chair that is easy to clean can make you more effortless. Plastic or vinyl cushions and plastic plates are easier to clean than other materials.
◆ It is recommended that you purchase high chairs with raised edges around the plates. Because raised edges can prevent food or water droplets from falling to the ground. Some plates have extensions on both sides that allow the baby's arms to rest on them, making it more comfortable for the baby to use.
◆ It is recommended to choose waterproof and oil stain resistant seat cushion covers, as they are easier to clean.
