On March 3, 2020, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced a public review of five potential substances of high concern (SVHCs). The five substances evaluated this time are: 1-vinylimidazole, 2-methylimidazole, butyl paraben, dibutyltin bis (acetylacetonate), and resorcinol. The public consultation will end on April 17, 2020, during which all stakeholders can submit their comments to ECHA. The substances that have passed the evaluation will be included in the SVHC candidate list as the 23rd batch of substances.

Kind reminder:
The REACH SVHC list is generally updated twice a year and requires a series of evaluation processes. However, as REACH is a regulation, once it is published and comes into effect, it has legal effect, and any violation will result in corresponding penalties. So companies need to raise their risk awareness of their products. Within six months after the substance is included in the SVHC candidate list, eligible companies need to complete the SVHC notification for the item. It is recommended that companies conduct an early investigation into their supply chain to cope with regulatory changes with ease.
